Horse Race Handicapping College - Thoroughbred Horse Racing - Types of Wagers.

Thoroughbred Horse Racing - Types of Wagers.

It does not matter how good your horse handicapping is, it is imperative that you use a good and consistent wagering strategy if you want to maximize your profits at horse racing.

Although wagering on thoroughbred horse racing is legal online and offline, does not imply that the best horse always wins and that you will profit from every race that you wager. The game is a 'horse race' and knowing the rules is only part of the game.

I agree, most people get into a common rut and seem to be fixated on a particular style of wagering, but to be a successful horse race handicapper, your wagering strategy should fit the situation.

I hate to disappoint you, but even if you have selected the best horse in a race, it will not always win. A poor start, getting boxed in, or going wide on a turn, are but only a few of the reasons that your 'selected' horse may get beat.

Let's say that you are thinking about betting $20 to WIN on a particular horse. Unless the horse is a 'short price', you might be better off betting $12 to WIN and $8 to PLACE. In a case like this, if the odds at post time are say 10-1, the WIN and PLACE wager may be a wiser bet to place, because of the value returned for a WIN or a PLACE. When the favorite does not finish 1st or 2nd , then the PLACE and SHOW prices can be very attractive.

So much the case, that the PLACE and or even the SHOW price can exceed the WIN payoff.

Another common wagering rut that some horse players get locked into: EXACTA players that want to always put a horse on top, and several in the 2nd spot. Naturally, if your choices are fairly evenly matched, then your best bet is to BOX them and not try to guess which one goes on top.

Have you ever seen this one? Wagering on an EXACTA Straight and do it with a large wager. Consider this - $25 Exacta 4-8. If you like the 4 and 8 enough to bet $25, how about playing it $20 Exacta 4-8 and $5 Exacta 8-4, just in case.

Another trap to avoid is playing 3 very short priced horses in a small field. The probable Exacta payoffs will, in most cases be very poor. This is one race that you would want to pass, unless you really like one of the 'Long Shots'.

The Trifecta can be an excellent wager and the source of many of your wins if wagered properly and you seek value in your horse race handicapping. In this case, Slotting can be your friend and prevent you from spending too much of your bankroll on any given race.

Bottom Line: Just because there is a horse race, does not mean that you have to place a wager.

Above all...do not wager with money that you can not afford to lose and do not wager more than 5% of your bankroll on any given race.

Fact: Only 2% of all horse race handicappers actually make money wagering.

I would like to define successful horse racing handicapping as the horse handicapper that always has money available to wager on the race that has a potential for large payoffs.

Wagering Strategies That You Can Use For Thoroughbred Horse Racing

There is really a multitude of different wagering strategies that you can use when it comes to this type of horse racing in particular, and one of the things that is going to help you out most is a thorough understanding and knowledge of horse handicapping.

When understood, and properly applied
, you can use your horse racing handicapping strategies to your advantage.

Another issue that you need to have a clear understanding of in regards to the matter of horse racing is that of your wagering options. You can basically wager as much as you want, although most horse racing events will impose some sort of a limit that you cannot go under or over.

You just want to make sure that you set a budget for yourself before you go to the races or begin wagering online, so that you do not end up getting too excited and start overspending, because this tends to happen to the majority of all horse players.

The emphasis and importance of a sound money management can not be overstated. Do not under any circumstances wager more than 5% of your wagering capital on any given horse race, and do do wager with money that you can not afford to lose. If you end up winning, then of course it will seem as though it was worth it, but if you end up losing, you may find yourself in a lot of financial trouble.

Gambling can be fun, especially in regards to something such as horse racing, but you certainly do not want to spend more than you can afford, and you never have any guarantees as to when you are going to win, even if you feel as though you are an expert or as though you are really lucky. It is impossible to always win and even professional horse race handicappers have losing streaks.

What makes the professional horse race handicapper stand alone, is the ability to properly manage his /her bankroll.

Horse racing handicapping and wagering, although a legal form of gambling, does not guarantee that the risk of losing your money has been eliminated.

Fact: Only 2% of all horse race handicappers actually make money wagering.

Horse Race Handicapping College - Thoroughbred Horse Racing Handicapping Gives Each Horse An Equal Chance of Winning.

Thoroughbred Horse Racing Handicapping Gives Each Horse An Equal Chance Of Winning

Thoroughbred horse racing started off in England in the seventeenth century when horses from North Africa and Turkey were crossed with native British stock to produce the ‘Royal Mares’ which were a new breed that came to be known as thoroughbred horses.

In modern times, thoroughbred horse racing includes the Triple Crown that comprises the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.

There is no other form of horse racing quite as popular as thoroughbred horse racing and it all begins with a trainer that trains the horses for particular events as well as enters the horse into an event that is most suitable for it, i.e he is trying to match his horse with other horses where his horse would have the best chance to win.

In this process he or she is assisted by a jockey who provides valuable information about the horse from his or her experience in riding the horse from previous races and the training/workouts done leading up to a race.

Making A Level Field For All Horses In A Particular Race

Thoroughbred horse racing also involves making the horse race a level field for all horses, and this is achieved through “horse race handicapping”, in which the horses are judged on their performance in previous races.

If the handicapping is done correctly, in theory at least, all horses stand an equal chance of winning that particular race in which they have been handicapped. There is some notable handicapped thoroughbred horse racing events such as the Grand National at Aintree, England, and the Santa Anita Handicap at Santa Anita Park.

Thoroughbred horse racing for thoroughbreds starts when the horse reaches two years of age - with each horse having an official January 1 birthday. By the time they reach the age of four they are eligible to enter handicap races.

In such a form of thoroughbred horse racing, the track handicapper will allot weights to each thoroughbred based on his or her assessment of each horse’s ability so that all horses begin equal or at least as equal as is possible.

Thoroughbred horse races that are handicapped involves two pounds of weight being equivalent to one length or one fifth of a second in time. If a horse is handicapped with a ten pound advantage it would mean the horse has (theoretically) a five length head start.

Handicapped thoroughbred horse racing events are also possible for two or three year old thoroughbreds, though most trainers try to avoid having their horses given heavy imposts by entering their horses into races that have equal weights allotted to all horses.

Some of the more important handicap races are the Metropolitan Handicap, the Brooklyn Handicap, as well as the Suburban Handicap, which together constitute the Handicap Triple Crown. The Santa Anita Handicap or “Big Cap” was was considered as being the richest horse race.

Horse racing handicapping is a learned skill, and when used in conjunction with a wagering money management platform, can reap very lucrative rewards and cash payouts.

Horse Race Handicapping College - Why is Thoroughbred Horse Racing So Popular?

Why is Thoroughbred Horse Racing So Popular?

Not surprisingly, there are various different reasons as to why thoroughbred horse racing is such a popular activity, and one of the most major reasons, of course, is because you can legally gamble – and often times win – large sums of money on it.

Just the lure of the probability of cashing in a winning ticket is enough to bring someone to the game. But without an indepth knowledge of horse race handicapping, a player will, in more cases than not, come up with the proverbial 'short stick'.

However, with thoroughbred horse racing, as with any other type of horse racing or even gambling in general for that matter, you are going to want to make sure that you keep yourself in check and that you do not spend too much or put yourself in debt because this is obviously not the way that you want to go. In my opinion, a sound money management plan needs to be in place before you even begin to think about wagering on the next horse race.

Issues To Think About Before You Bet On Thoroughbred Horse Racing

There is really a multitude of different issues that you should think about before you go to bet on thoroughbred horse racing; however, there are several in particular that are of particular importance. For instance, there is the issue of handicapping in regards to thoroughbred horse racing, which is something that you definitely have to consider, but also have a deep understanding of, if you are the one cashing in winning tickets.

Basically if you bet on a horse that has a handicap, you are not going to be making as much money on it, because the odds will be better, since the horse has a handicap. Therefore, if you are looking to win a lot of money then you are going to want to wager on the horses that do not have a handicap, but if you are just starting off in horse race handicapping, it is imperative that you become an educated horse handicapper and that you not only use discipline, but adhere to a sound money management strategy.

There is also the matter of the betting angle that you are going to use, and you are going to want to make sure that you have chosen one before you get to the track and or start wagering online. By doing so, you will know more about how the game is played and be in a position to be able to capitalize on horse handicapping value plays that occur on a regular basis and be rewarded with the best possible results.

Finally, the third most important thing that you are going to want to think about here is that of how much money you are going to be wagering. You definitely do not want to wait until the time of the actual race to figure this one out.

Again, a sound money management plan is critical, especially if you want to stay in the game of horse racing and horse racing handicapping. I would suggest and recommend that you only wager with money that you can afford to lose and that no more than 5% of your wagering capital is wagered on any given horse race.

Bottom Line: An educated horse race handicapper uses sound money management.
