Rail to Wire

It was not the Street Sense of the Horse,

but the "Street Sense" of Jockey Calvin Borel,
who kept Street Sense glued to the rail during
the 133rd Run for the Roses.

Previous races that day indicated that the rail
was the place to be, but as the day continued,
it was equal footing left to right.

It was like a walk in the park on a sunny summer
afternoon for Calvin and Street Sense, as they
had the best
seat in the house after the first turn.

Written off at that point, as 18 colorful silks
were slugging it out and "jockeying" for position
in front of them on the long backstretch at Churchill.

If only Calvin had a video cam on his helmet,
it would have been a colorful collage as they
surged past the field.

And Down the Stretch they come, Calvin and
Street Sense really had no competition, as
they picked off the last 2 colors of the rainbow.

This Horse Race was over prior to the wire.

This was a classic display of strategy and
opportunity...while the pack elected to take
the high road, one clever and experienced
jockey seized opportunity, and made quite a
few horse handicappers grin and say "I told
you so".

Bottom line...the shortest distance between
the gate and the wire is the rail, and that is
the path that Calvin guided Street Sense...
all the way to the Winners Circle.

Hat's off to Calvin for an incredible ride.

Maybe a sip of some of that "Mint" stuff is
now in order as we follow the road of the
Triple Crown to 5201 Park Heights Rd.

Off to the Races.....the Diamond Eagle
